Evaluating a Unified Screener for Adolescent Internalizing and Externalizing Problems

چکیده
Internalizing and externalizing problems are common targets for school mental health screening. Prior research supports the interpretation of scores from Youth Problems Screener (YIPS) Externalizing (YEPS), which were developed separately yet intended as companion measures. We extended previous work by evaluating psychometric defensibility integrated measurement models that combined items YIPS YEPS into a unified screener (YIEPS). Specifically, we evaluated (a) unidimensional model, (b) correlated-factors model with two latent variables representing internalizing problems, (c) bifactor specific factors—internalizing externalizing—and general factor global problems. then tested reliabilities several factors these informational value added competing models. Results indicated YIEPS had best data-model fit screener. However, exploratory analyses suggested an alternative three factors—parsing attention content—might be even better data. Reliability findings factor—representing problems—was most psychometrically defensible. Future directions practice discussed.

Internalizing and externalizing conditions in adolescent anorexia.
OBJECTIVE To identify the prevalence of internalizing and externalizing conditions in referred anorexic adolescents. METHOD Child Behavior CheckList (CBCL) and Youth Self Report (YSR) were used to assess psychopathology: (a) in the global sample (43 adolescents); (b) in different subtypes of anorexia; (c) considering the timing of admission after the onset of the disease. RESULTS A high per...

متن کاملTemperament profiles associated with internalizing and externalizing problems in preadolescence.
This study investigates how temperament factors are linked to internalizing and externalizing problems in a Dutch population sample of preadolescents (N = 2230). Internalizing and externalizing problems were assessed by the Child Behavior Checklist and the Youth Self-Report and temperament was evaluated by the parent-version of the Revised Early Adolescent Temperament Questionnaire. Temperament...
متن کاملCodevelopment of externalizing and internalizing problems in early childhood.
Using cross-domain latent growth modeling, we examined trajectories of externalizing and internalizing problems in disadvantaged boys followed from ages 2 to 6 years (N = 303). On average, externalizing problems gradually decreased and internalizing problems gradually increased. However, we found significant variability in individual-level trajectories. Higher levels of externalizing problems w...
